Who Am I?

My name is Stephanie and in one word I could define myself as Resilient. I have a 3 year old son, who I consider my inspiration. The biggest influence in my life would have to be my mother. She's and independent woman, who works hard, has a positive mindset, and is an amazing single mother. Through her struggle and where we are today, motivates me to pursue my career and more.

My goals in life are to continue school, and get a degree in social work. I want to work with ACS to help change children's lives. I want to raise my son in a good environment and make him an educated and productive citizen.

I always had the mindset that a mother cares, nurtures, teaches, loves and protects their child. I thought mother's had children because they wanted them. But as I grew up and started seeing the world for what it is, its not always like that. As I read the papers about child abuse, neglect etc. I find myself viewing life in another perspective. My major is social work, so I need to have a social perspective view of others. A lot of families think punishment has more of a value then reinforcement and vise versa. As well as their are plenty of "mothers" who abandon their children or abuse them. These are some events that have changed my views on how I see the world.

I definitely think our biography is influenced by history. I never really thought about how much history repeats itself, because you can't really say its completely changed. We've seen how social class structures have been around for hundreds of years. Still to this day we have class structures. Sure were more "liberal" than before but how much if we still have poverty versus wealth. In a sociological perspective, to have a liberal country we need capitalism and with capitalism comes poverty. Having a society with class structures means theirs always going to be someone at the bottom, that's just how capitalism works. To me this is how history has continued and how it has influenced my views on life.

  1. It is nice to meet YOU Stephanie! I can tell that you're a very genuine person who knows what to do in order to succeed. "Through The Social glass" is such an amazing title for your blog since it relates to the purpose of the blog but adds a little creativity, very clever!
Reading your "Who Am I?" blog post I can tell that you're a very stable well planted mother. I agree that a "mother cares, nurtures, teaches, loves, and protects their child" because it IS the parent that influences them, the way the next generation grows into society is affected by what the parent does. Your point on punishment I also agree on because it does too affect the way society works in the future.
I can tell that you're an interesting person full of excitement and knowledge that the world needs to be fed "Through The Social glass" you've created! I look forward to working with you!

    Cheers!
